Out and about with The SHOUT: Salsa Night with Tumbáo

Culture, community, and dancing' is the easiest way to describe salsa night here in Wichita, Kansas. But its some you've got to experience for yourself.

Out and about with The SHOUT: Salsa Night with Tumbáo
"Salsa night is a night of joy and dancing," says Jose Nepius. "It's one of those nights that we can remember what it feels to be a Latino in Wichita." Photo by Julian Azcary Montes.

Members of Tumbáo say their regular Salsa Nights bring the spirit of Latin America to Wichita. Julian Azcary Montes takes us to a recent salsa night at Wave, where the floor was packed with dancers — including beginners.

"We don't care ... if you're scared to dance or you don't know how to dance," says Ereymi Correa Santana. "As long as you're having a great time, we'll embrace you."

Tumbáo's next Salsa Night kicks off at 10 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at John Barleycorn's, 608 E. Douglas Ave. in Wichita. Admission is $15.

This video is the first of a new series that will highlight reoccurring events in the Wichita area and beyond. If you've never tried Salsa Night, an art auction, or any number of arts events around town, "you're missing out, come through!" We'd love to see you there.
